Power stakeholders task DisCos, GenCos on effective service delivery

Stakeholders in the Power Sector, has urged Generation Companies (GenCos) and Distribution Companies (DisCos) to prioritise effective delivery of services to electricity consumers in the country.

They made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of the 26th monthly meeting of power sector  operators in the country.

It was gathered that the meeting chaired by the Minster of Power, works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola had in attendance major stakeholders in the sector.

The meeting focused on identifying, discussing and finding practical solutions to crucial issues facing the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

It was preceded by the official commissioning of a 40MVA, 132/33KVA mobile power transformer to improve the Ohiya tramsmission sub-station to 120MVA to boost power supply in Abia state.

The communiqué noted the importance of customer service as reasons while the power industry exists.

It implored GenCos and DisCos, who now run the distribution and generation ends of the business to focus on customer service.

The communiqué lauded the launch of a customer handbook published by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.

It also urged the media to propagate the names and contact numbers of the persons to call when customers have complaints.

The communiqué noted Niger-Delta Power Holding Company’s (NDPHC) completion of TCN’s support  of a 1x40MVA,132/33Kv substation at Nsukka on March 20 to improve electricity supply to the  University of Nigeria (UNN) and its environs.

It reiterated the need for the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) to increase its performance on remittance to the market for electricity generated.

According to the communiqué, DisCos should take ownership of all completed distributions projects by government agencies like NDPHC and TCN and the meter asset regulations.

It acknowledged the efforts of states governments across party lines for assisting the Federal Government in resolving the right of way issues affecting power project completion.

It commended Abia state government for supporting the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to facilitate the construction of a proposed power station at Ariaria international market to serve 30,000 shops.

The communiqué also acknowledged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)  for disbursing N38.53 billion to operators under the Nigeria Electricity Management Stablisation Facility  on April 4.
