Affordable Housing: FMBN begins construction of 100 units of houses in Jigawa

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has commenced the construction of 100 units of houses in Jigawa, according to its Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr Ahmed Dangiwa

Ahmed Dangiwa disclosed this while speaking at groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of the houses in Dutse on Monday, saying that he houses would be delivered under the National Affordable Housing Delivery Programme (NAHDEP).

Dangiwa also said the houses would be in a mix of 3, 2 and 1 bedrooms semi-detached bungalows and block of flats with a strong focus on affordability and adjustments to suit location peculiarities.

He also said that it would be executed in collaboration with Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigerian Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA).

“It is my pleasure to welcome you to this epoch making event, the first of its kind involving all stakeholders and the FMBN on affordable housing delivery.

“The event today represents one of the series of groundbreaking for the commencement of collaborative housing projects for Nigerian workers who are the contributors to the National Housing fund (NHF) under NAHDEP.

“Through this programme, the Bank will be delivering 100 units of houses in each state of the federation in a mix of 3, 2, and 1 bedroom semi-detached bungalows and block of flats,“ he said.

The FMBN boss said the project was being executed with strong focus on affordability and adjustments to suit location peculiarities.

Dangiwa further stated that the collaborative agreement was in fulfillment of one of the cardinal agenda of the Buhari-led administration, the provision of affordable houses for the people.

According to him, the programme is designed to be implemented in phases, adding that the groundbreaking in Jigawa is part of the first phase to be run as a pilot to deliver.

He said the project would turn out 1,400 units of houses across the six geo-graphical zones in the country.

“Each zone will have 200 houses with 100 units in two selected states and Jigawa is lucky to be one of the states picked in the North Western geo-political zone.The choice of the state is largely due to its commitment to NHF scheme, among other reasons.

“While other states have had cause to withdraw from NHF scheme at one time or the other, Jigawa is the only state in the country that remains consistent in its contribution to the scheme.”

Dangiwa assured that the project would be completed in six months.

The National Deputy Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Alhaji Muhammad Kiri, commended the state government for providing land for the project within in six months, and described the move as highly commendable.

The state Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Usman Ya’u, lauded FMBN also commended the state government for the project,saying that it would go long way in addressing housing problem among Nigerians, particularly civil servants.
