Chairman of Nigeria’s Senate Committee on Housing, Sam Egwu has acknowledged that the private sector has been the major driver of housing development in the country, while also appreciating the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN).

He revealed this at the on-going African International Housing Show in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

“From oversight, we have been able to see that the private sector has done more than the government in terms of housing delivery, the truth must be said – the quality of job and the costs at which they are delivered, he noted.

“We cannot be talking about housing that the masses can’t be able to afford. I’m talking about affordability of these houses and if you build a house that is not affordable, the houses are not meant for the masses. So, I wish to appreciate REDAN in particular.

“From the oversights we have had, we want to score them very high. The government and agencies should try and improve on their performances, Egwu, a one time governor of Ebonyi state said.
