The Senate Committee on Power has visited the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Authority (NEMSA) as part of its oversight functions.
The team was led by the Chairman of the committee, Senator Gabriel Suswam.
During the visit the Committee lamented the poor rate of metering in the country.
Its Chairman, Senator Suswam expressed disappointment at the progress of the metering campaign of the Federal government despite the release of ₦39 billion in funding.
Responding the Managing Director Peter Ewesor said, ”We have actually certified well over 15 companies in the last nine months because they know that if they are not producing meters in Nigeria, they will not have access to the facilities that the government is providing through the CBN”.
”All those who have been bringing in meters from outside the country now have to establish factories in Nigeria”, he added.
Ewesor showed his gratitude to the Committee on the visit and also commended the FG’s metering policy.
