LASG inaugurates control room for waterways transportation

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a state-of-the-art control room at the Lagos State Waterways jetty at Falomo in the Ikoyi area of the state where all water transport activities are monitored to ensure safety.

In addition, the state purchased well-equipped rescue boats for monitoring and quick response which have enabled a reduction in incidences of boat mishaps.

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Mrs Olayinka Patunola-Ajayi, while receiving the President and Chairman-in-Council of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Johnbull Amayaevbo, at her office.

Speaking during the meeting, Patunola-Ajayi said the ministry was working on the construction of 21 concrete jetties across the state for safety and fast water transportation out of which seven had been completed and were ready for use by Lagosians.

She also revealed that the state was working on the upgrade of the existing small jetties in rural areas to bring them up to the established standard of the present administration for the safety and comfort of the citizens of the state.

She then called for a partnership between the state government and NIESV towards economic sustainability and development of the state.

In his remark, the NIESV President, Amayaevbo, said the essence of the visit was to engender a more cordial relationship between the institution, state government, ministries, departments, agencies of government and critical stakeholders.

He commended the permanent secretary for the appreciable progress the ministry had recorded in the area of jetty construction within the short period she assumed office.

This was as he reaffirmed his trust in her ability to continue to work for the improvement of services for a better society, particularly within her sphere of responsibilities.
