In order to curb frequent building collapse in the country, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife has charged Nigerian architects and other professionals in the built industry to push towards implementing the country’s National Building Code.

Nigeria’s National Building Code is a set of minimum standards on building pre-design, designs, construction and post-construction stages with a view to ensuring quality, safety and proficiency in the housing industry.

“Building collapse is a major problem, I am ready to join the drive in achieving the implementation of the building code and ethics in Nigeria”, the monarch said.

The Ooni, once a major developer and investor in real estate, was the Royal Father of the Day at this year’s Lagos Architects Forum (LAF) which is an annual event organized by the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA). This year’s edition with the theme, ‘The City of Lagos: What is Lagos?’ is the 13th in the series.

He hoped that young architects would be the ones to change the skyline and landscape of Nigeria, adding that he was happy with what the NIA was doing by inspiring and showing them what was possible.
