The Anambra Physical Planning Board (ANPPB) has warned developers across the state to obtain approval for their sites before embarking on any construction.

The General Manager of the board, Ngozi Etisile, gave the warning in an interview with newsmen in Awka, on Monday.

Etisile said illegal development activities in the state would be met with stiff resistance and punishment as the government would not allow abuse of the environment.

She said there would be no going back in ensuring that all revenue accruable to the state was paid by developers.

According to her, it is no longer going to be business as usual for those who shortchanged the government.

The general manager urged those embarking on construction to go to the local town planning authority in their councils to seek approval and pay the appropriate fees or have their projects demolished.

She added the staff and the planning board was monitoring development activities in the state on daily basis to ensure that they confirmed with the standards.

In her words,“We go out daily to monitor what developers are doing; we look out to see that those who have approved plan are sticking to it at the sites and also for those who do not have approval at all.

“Anambra State Physical Planning Board is concerned about the environment, about conformity to the layout of a particular area and acts capable of causing or encouraging erosion of our lands.

“Any physical development that does not have approved plan will be pulled down, so we advise them to go to the physical planning authority in their locality for approval.

“All payments are made into the state government coffers through the bank and are receipted for, no cash payment to anybody, that is the law,” she said.

According to her, the board had embarked on demolition of shanties and illegal settlements across the councils in the state.

She urged residents of the state to take healthy environmental practices seriously for sustainable development.
