More dams are at different stages of completion or commencement in Nigeria which would add to the electricity generation, irrigation and drinking water supply of the country.
The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, said that 13 major water projects will be inaugurated in early 2018 to boost water supply, agriculture and hydro electric power generation.
He also stated that advanced discussions with potential investors for the Gurara II, Lokoja and Dasin hausa hydropower projects are ongoing. These when completed would produce and add a combined 1,250MW electricity to the national grid.
Adamu listed the projects as Northern Ishan regional water supply project and Ojirami Dam in Edo, Kashimbilla Dam in Taraba and Ogwashi-Ukwu Dam in Delta, among others.
He said that the Shagari and Barkin Ladi irrigation projects in Sokoto and Plateau states were part of the projects
