The Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) president, Olaide Afolabi, has appealed to the Lagos State Government to improve the electronic method of processing building plan approval.
Speaking to newsmen on Friday in Lagos, he noted that the electronic process had not made meaningful impact as regards the way it is designed.
According to him, the electronic pattern was supposed to make the process less cumbersome, adding that the reverse is the case, as they encounter stress when going through the electronic process.
He said: “Normally, it is not supposed to exceed three working days for an applicant to obtain building plan approval, especially when it is being processed online. But the process still consumes the same quantity of money and time. Sometimes, the manual method even seems to be preferable.”
He enjoined the relevant policy makers to take the necessary steps to make the process less stressful and more efficient.
He added that there was also a need for more public awareness on the electronic method, so as to encourage people to embrace the approach.
