The fact that sea ports are financial boosters for Nigeria is not new.
The impressive turnover of the new leadership in the Nigerian Customs Service is clear evidence of this.
And now, an environmentalist, Paul Akporowho has joined the call for the Federal Government to open up more ports in the country to further increase the nation’s revenue.
Akporowho, who is the National Secretary, Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) believes that the rehabilitation of ports like Warri, Calabar and Onne would effectively add more to the nation’s purse and help to decongest the Apapa port in Lagos.
The obvious gain is the monetary value. The environmentalist while speaking in Warri on Tuesday, added that a functional Warri port would provide the much needed jobs for the restive youths in the Niger Delta region.
